For expression lines correction contemporary esthetic medicine is effectively using action principle of botulinus toxin of A type based on neuromuscular transmission blockade. Injection of botulinus toxin into overactive muscle blocks acetylcholine release (excitation mediator) from the nerve endings, thus providing relaxation and immobility of the muscles. Action of botulinus toxin lasts for 3 to 8 months depending on dose of the preparation injected and personality trait. Such temporary blockade assures smoothing of already formed wrinkles and hinders the appearance of new ones.
For correction of expression lines botulinus toxin of A type is used which is contained in preparations «BOTOX» (USA) and «DYSPORT» (France). These preparations are certified and approved for application in aesthetic medicine by Ministry of health of the Russian Federation.
Contraindications to injection procedures:

allergy or idiosyncrasy to any preparation component

acute infection diseases (including recrudescence of herpes)

inflammatory process in place of injection

pregnancy and lactation period

blood-clotting disorders (hemophilia, thrombocytopenia)

myasthenia and myasthenia-like syndromes

administration of muscle relaxants, ant clotting agents, amino glycoside antibiotics, tetracycline, polymyxin

Side effects:
It is also necessary to know that:

the procedure can cause the above mentioned side effects that are temporary and reversible

action of the preparation begins on the 2-7 day after injection

additional injection of the preparation is admissible within 14 – 21 days after the first injection was made

action of the preparation lasts for 3 – 6 months after that repeated procedure is possible

according to international statistical data personal insusceptibility to the preparation was registered less than in 0,01 % of cases
-
administration of amino glycoside antibiotics and tetracycline during 4 months after treatment can lessen effect of the procedure
